Re: 55-1 Floor Replacement Absolute Sheetmetal
One thing I forgot to mention is the kit does not come with the supports that run parallel to the old trans cover opening. We fabed some and put them in for a little extra strength. If you were using the replacement cab mounts you wouldn't have a place to weld them to.

Re: 55-1 Floor Replacement Absolute Sheetmetal
My kit came with a cross bar that ran parallel to the old seat riser and tied into the side pieces. I can put up a pic if you want? Don't want to ruin you thread with my stuff...Jim

Re: 55-1 Floor Replacement Absolute Sheetmetal
We started on the hole under the pillar pocket and as many of you have seen with your projects the hole got bigger by the minute as we started to cut metal off the rust kept moving with it. What started as a small hole ended up as just about the whole bottom section of the pillar and the end of the rocker. We ended up making and replacing the bottom of the outer cowl panel the rocker at the pillar and part of the hinge pillar.

Re: 55-1 Floor Replacement Absolute Sheetmetal
This wasn't as complicated as it looks its just time consuming. If you have a bead roller and a brake you can make all the parts we needed with little effort. We used the set roll on the beader to make the outer panel and I had a small section of rocker and bent up the end portion

Re: 55-1 Floor Replacement Absolute Sheetmetal
You'll have to start a thread and post your progress. Should look good at that height.
Thanks for letting us do the work. |

Re: 55-1 Floor Replacement Absolute Sheetmetal
Hello,
I am a new member rebuilding a 1950 with my 15 year old son. We need to do some floor replacement and I would just like to say thanks for documenting your process. After completing it, would you recommend purchasing the kit? Thanks, Mike |

Re: 55-1 Floor Replacement Absolute Sheetmetal
I like the floor pans from Absolute but Dave istalled them, but I would have to ask what your plans are for the truck, because this set up does away with the battery box cover and the acces hole for the master cylinder so you have to take that into consideration

Re: 55-1 Floor Replacement Absolute Sheetmetal
As Brian said, It does away with some stock items that can be made to work but it is a kit I would recommend to anyone wanting a well fitting kit. The under lying repairs are harder to do that the floor was to install. We didn't have to trim much on the replacement metal compared to a stock stamped floor which in most cases are rust panels that are over sized for that reason.
It fits well, the price is good and its made in the USA. |

Re: 55-1 Floor Replacement Absolute Sheetmetal
We are completing a full rebuild - including a 350 and a 700R4. I can live with adding a drop down battery box in the stock location. I would need to create access to the new Master which is under the floor (using a TCI bracket and pedal). I would assume that could be done on the pans.
My big question is one of time vs. money - comparing the purchase of the pans vs. self fabrication. |

the kit comes with a door you can cut out for the master. Making vs. buying, I think i'd rather buy it. Its cheap compared to buying the sheet, making templates an hoping you get it right the first time. Floors can be a big PIA and I think that this makes it easier and more enjoyable to do in the hobby sense. Long drawn out projects get old quick. This whole thing took us about 26 hours to do. figure you could do it in 30 hrs not having done it before. but you would have to add on the time to source steel and make the floors if you were making your own. |
