How shiny were original wheels - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm getting ready to paint the 16 inch wheels I found. They are gonna be painted black because it came from the factory with black 15's. Anyway, how shiny were the original ones from the factory? It seems like the last ones I had painted looked too shiny.

I don't know for sure, but I did mine in a satin black. Gloss and matte were too far either direction for me.
Maybe there's a paint code somewhere?

Electrophoretic Painting Process

I believe that the stock wheels from the factory were e coated as it is commonly referred to. It has a semi gloss look to it and was used on a lot of sheet metal and steel parts such as hood latches, hood hinges, inner fenders, core supports and much more.

I could be wrong but this is what I think.

Every original black wheel I have seen was gloss black (very shiny), the same color used for exterior paint.

The wheels on my 69 3/4 ton have always been gloss white. But, you are probably asking about 1/2 ton wheels. The colors may be different, but it is perhaps reasonable to expect them to be gloss.
