Re: Best and Worst eBay/Craigslist/swap meet parts finds - what you got??

I retired from the military last summer so I was on a truck buying spree. I went to look at a 67 truck with a topper. The ad said it was just an old truck for $1500. I bought the 67 CST buddie bucket V6 truck for $700, kept the seat... traded the big window cab and doors for a NOS grill. Im using the rest of the truck and topper for storage and the V6 will turn into a static display this summer as garage art. Keep looking the deals are always out there. The key is to run every lead to ground.

Maybe not a truck part but totally cool!
I'll give you $10.00 for it. That's about a 1000% profit!
Just kidding...No, Really, I will!

Re: Best and Worst eBay/Craigslist/swap meet parts finds - what you got??

At the Denver swap meet (Feb 2013)
I purchased a perfect (and I mean perfect) original rust free passenger side '67 fender for $60.00. The guy had $100.00 on it but he kinda had it hidden under a table and had been sitting on it all day.
As I was leaving to go home, I walked over to him an said:
"I'm leaving... will you take my last $60.00 for the fender?"
he said... "I'm leaving too, yes I'll take your money... that way I don't have to carry it to the truck"

Made my day!

Re: Best and Worst eBay/Craigslist/swap meet parts finds - what you got??

I had a customer that had bought several late model trucks and a car or two from me. He had a 68 GMC 3/4 ton I had asked about buying it from him he always turned me down. He had bought an Avalanche from me and I offered to give him like $1000 trade in on that truck, he said no. The next spring he bought a extra cab GMC truck [his wife took the AV]and after driving it a couple of weeks he came out looking for a topper or bed cover. I had just bought an 03 Silverado for junk hit light in the front that had a hard lift up cover.he said if you will paint that to match my GMC, I will trade you my 68 for it. I said I will have it ready to install day after tomorrow.Well I put the lid on his truck and it was coming up on a long weekend, My wife and I had been out of town and when we got back on a Sunday morning I drove by his house to take a look at what I had done. He was sitting in his yard I told him I just wanted to look he said drive home. He got in the seat pumped it a couple of times and fired it up. I had not looked as of yet. It was a custom factory air power steering ,brakes with buddies and was a big block and a wood floor. Oh and speed warning. So I noticed the seats didn't look right he said those are van seats bolted to the frame, and one more thing I want the power gate off the back. Ok I said I'll get it off for you. Well he came to the shop to visit [he does quite often] and he said when you got that old truck I forgot to tell you the tailgate to it is in my shop next to the original seats if you want them. I have since added a tach and vac to the dash and a tilt, gonna put it on a 68 short frame that is rolling already on 5 lug stuff. I have the motor ready it is a 454 either t400 or 4L80E [have two of both and can't choose]. That is I guess my best old parts/truck story. Jim

Re: Best and Worst eBay/Craigslist/swap meet parts finds - what you got??

Last summer I bought a complete 330hp Mercruiser marine engine off of Craigslist for $100. Amazingly clean inside. 4 bolt 454, flat top pistons. #360 peanut port heads. Guy had junked out the boat and the big ol' engine was in his way in his little shop. He said he'd run it before he took it out and if it was stuck or busted he'd give me my money back. Added it to my small B. block collection I haven't done anything with.

Here you go Sir!
The 67 after I added wheels to drag it home becuase the 17.5's were flat.
The NOS grill I traded for the cab and doors getting packaged up for the new owner.
I cut the box stickers and included them in the package to the new owner.
