Need a new carb for my 84 K30 454.

The choke doesn't work on the factory quadrajet. I am thinking about taking the edelbrock carb off my 350 and trying to put it on the 454. The 350 has an edelbrock performer intake and the 454 has the factory intake. The 454 still has all the factory stuff on it. Do I need an adapter to put the aftermarket carb on the 454 factory intake? I really don't want to put an aftermarket intake on it at this time. I just need it to start in this cold weather and the q-jet isn't doing that right now. I am not sure if they are square or spread bore as far as the carbs and intakes since they are all still bolted down.

You will need a spreadbore to square bore adapter.
Edelbrock did make a spreadbore replacement carb for a while, but it has been discontinued.

Why don't you just fix the choke on your quadrajet. Take a pic of it.
We can likely find a cure.

I haven't even really messed with it to be honest. I did take the breather off and had seen where someone (not me) had wired it (shut?). It took forever to get it running today although it hadnt been started for a month. Still it wouldnt idle and I bet I restarted it 20 times before I could keep it running.

Sounds normal except I think you mean wired open. Wired shut would never keep trying to run.
Changing your carb now will be a waste of time till the warmer weather returns.
Burn us off a pic of both sides of your carb. We like a challenge!!

I knew I would say that wrong. I just want the dang thing to start on the first or second try. My 350 I can pump twice and it is ready to go. Not the 454. It will be morning before I can get a pic if you want to re-visit this thread tomorrow. Thanks.
