Converting A/C to R134

I've read up on the conversion as far as what needs to be replaced. Sounds like I can reuse the evaporator coil as long as it's thoroughly flushed.

I currently have it off the truck (reassembling after a 6+ year restomod), so is that something that should be done now or when the truck is assembled and ready for a charge or ???

You need to adjust the POA for using R134a. There used to be a real good link I could post from autoacforum.com but the pictures disappeard. Maybe click over there and google around for the pictures to see if they are still around. Look for "POA Tester". Basically you need to turn an adjustment screw in the POA to make it work with the R134a. It has a different boiling point than R12. I've been running my truck for a couple of years now on R134a after flushing the system, adjusting the POA, and pulling a good vacuum before charging.

Re: Converting A/C to R134

While not recommended by car manufactures, others have claimed success using Easter oil instead of PAG.

PAG will eventually ruin non barrier hoses.

Cool Re: Converting A/C to R134

I would wait until you are ready to do the final assembly and do a retro mod change as I did. Mine looks all factory except I used a late model compressor. I used all the new condensor, acumaltor, dryier and no sight glass. It works great and the newer tubes let the 134-a expand better and work more efficiently.

This is it today!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
