68 Radio Problems

I have a 1968 Chevy C-10. I've had it a while and I'm ready to change the radio. I would like to add an original radio or a reproduction radio in it. It has an aftermarket JVC. By looks do you think it's been cut and can I replace it with an original radio?

From my experience and what I've seen the dashes are cut to adapt that style radio. The knobs are spread to far apart to be in the original holes

Pull the knobs off then the plate, You will see if its been cut or not. Some of the old shaft radios had adjustable shafts.

Re: 68 Radio Problems

Easy enough to pull the face plate and check it. Just pull the knobs and un-thread the post bolts.

By the way, I just got my stock AM radio back from Gary Tayman (http://www.garytayman.com) after conversion to AM/FM with Bluetooth and aux jack. I would highly recommend it. It will cost you about twice the price of a modern radio, but I am amazed at the quality of the conversion. Now I can stream bluetooth music and accept calls all with the look of the original radio.

Hey thindarr, not to take from his question but would you be willing to to make a new thread on this radio you had done? I've looked for information on this very subject and haven't found much. It'd be much appreciated.

Re: 68 Radio Problems

My radio opening on my 71 was hacked up and I made a plate that was contoured to the dash. I used two part epoxie to attach the plate to the dash and it has held for over 8 years. It is not as good a fix as welding in a plate and doing the bodywork but when the dash is already finished this does work.

Here is a picture.

Sure no problem. I've got another question to include about ashtray modifications anyway.
