Could use some input.

I've hit a mental wall with my 74. I'm spending my tax return this year on a tranny for her, and I'm not sure which way I want to go.

My original plan was to go with an NV3500 5 speed, as my truck is a cruiser, not a bruiser and I don't tow with it. But lately, I've been missing driving a 3 on the tree, and am now considering going that route.

I think, overall the three on the tree would be the cheaper swap, but I'm also remembering that my 74 is my dd, and a 5 speed would be more economical in the long run.

Input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Three on the tree was nothing but a headache for me and many others back in the day. I don't know how many floor shift conversions I sold back in the 80's.

Go with the 5 speed.

3 on the tree is a nice theft deterrent though.

Re: Could use some input.

if youre planning a stock rebuild as the main outcome of your truck then go 3 on tree if not and for economy id do the five speed..... the three on the tree can be temperamental with the shift rods getting jammed too

I don't know about the 3 on the tree. But I drove my brother's 2000 Sliverado with a nv3500 for the last couple days. I didn't like it, Overdrive was nice. But I'll stick with my old sm465.

If you have a normal small block a t5 swap from a camaro will work.
