DJM 3" drop lower control arms?

Does anyone have any experience with DJM's 3" dropped lower control arms for a 66 c10?

I am trying to get as low as possible in the front without having to do a disc conversion. It seems like the only way to do that is to either cut the bump stops off of stock lowers and cut a 3" spring and not care about alignment or give DJM's control arms a shot. I am just wondering about the quality of their product. If anyone out there is running these let me know.

Thanks

DJM builds decent stuff but not as good as Western Chassis or Bell Tech (spindles are equal). That being said, I would absolutely never recommend using dropped a-arms. The pivot bushings are already the lowest point of the 63-87 trucks & a pretty good target for impact when lowered. Now factor in the dropped spring pocket & there's that much more of a target...

My old roomate had a killer patina 65 short fleet back before patina trucks were 'popular'. He decided on dropped a-arms (vs my recommendation) & his truck was destroyed by a manhole cover that protruded from the street. The impact was square center of the a-arm & bent the frame where the rails kick-up for the front x-member.

Re: DJM 3" drop lower control arms?

Given the choice, I agree with Scoti. There is no reason to run the lower arms when you can do spindles and springs these days. Except of course the disc conversion. That said I put DJM 3" lower arms on my '71 in 1995 and haven't had any problems but the bottom spring pockets are beat. The pros are that you do maintain alignment and you can run 15" rims (with spindles you might have to trim the lower arms, depending on backspacing). The cons are destroying your truck on a pothole, potential ball joint stress / wear, and I personally don't like the look of them hanging down.

A year or two ago I cut one coil off of the springs, the front drop sits at about 5.5" and still aligns. There is alot of play in the camber on these trucks. I would still like to switch to spindles/springs though.

That should do it for you!

Re: DJM 3" drop lower control arms?

Thanks for the quick replies. The main reason I am not wanting to convert to discs is so I can run my stock rims. I was mainly wanting to know about the quality of DJM's parts. It doesn't seem like a lot of people are running these and I was trying to figure out why.

They are pretty beefy, that's for sure! I think most go with drop spindles/discs. The quality of my arms was top notch, and only takes a couple of hours to do the switch.

Re: DJM 3" drop lower control arms?

id do the disc swap with drop spindles. I ordered spindles and brake and rotor kit for under $600 shipped to my door. I looked for a long time cause i wanted the nastalgia of drums but its well worth the $600. plus you stop better

Re: DJM 3" drop lower control arms?

I understand about the wheels. I have drum brake wheels that wont clear calipers. So now the wheel expense on top of the brakes .

Ouch just saw the price on the lower arms.... looks like it will be a disc brake swap for that coinage
