auxilary tank bolts
Hi all, I need to replace the thru bolts that mount the auxiliary tanks through the bed. They are 7/16 x 13 inch carriage bolts with a special nut on the bottom. Anyone familiar with this setup? any advice for replacement bolts much appreciated. john

I would think you should be able to get them at your local hardware store.

Good luck sourcing the original types. Maybe try taking the bottom "nut" to a machine shop and have then turn a few out. The carriage bolts might be easier to find but will take some sourcing. Fastenal will special order them but they are proud of them for the size. When I refurbed my tanks, I broke one of the long carriage bolts and just used some all thread and Nyloc nut with a body washer for the top. It sucks having a big nut sticking up in the bed but it works till I can find another for a reasonable price. I was able to save the lower nut with a tap though. I spent a week or so looking for replacements but no luck. If you do find some, let me know and I'll grab a set as well. Check out some RV and 18 wheeler shops, those tanks are not factory and originally came from a RV accessory manufacture.

Thanks for the replies. I was able to save the nuts so I will be making my own bolts from 7/16 u-bolt stock from the spring shop. I made plates for the top out of 1/4 x 1-1/2 flat bar. thanks again
