[60'Sc10Project]

So im getting a 1960 Chevy long bed pickup here pretty soon. I plan on doing a complete ground up rebuild on this truck. The frame is getting cut down to a short bed, Its getting a big block and a TKO 500 transmission, im also going with the later styled hood and grill/light assembly (its missing the hood and the grill is gone anyway). My question is what should i do for a front suspension. The torsion bar setup isn't going to cut it for me. I'm going disk bakes all the way around and its going to be a daily driver so i want it to handle really well. I've seen the 1973-1987 Chevy suspension under these trucks but i was wondering if it would be better to do that or an aftermarket front suspension solution? If so what would you recommend? im getting this titled truck for free and its floor and cab are pretty solid, so in my opinion its a great deal. Thanks for the help!

I think it depends on cash. Can't really go wrong with a chevy front end for a few hundred bucks or less (I have. 76 under my 61) and just have to redrill some holes for the crossmember to mount. BUT if you have the cash no doubt a custom front end is nice.

I had my 1962 crossmember made from Porterbuilt. I did the numbers and the price difference was minimal to what rebuild cost was. This is built for a truck and not a MII or Camaro widened for our trucks. It not in yet, waiting for work to pick up to get every part together but the back is done.

you would be better off going with someone that builds front ends for our trucks. like no-limit,poretrbuilt, or scotts hot rod. don't go with a generic front end from hot rod builders. +or go with a late model stock front end and rebuild it? do the math on how much it will cost to rebuild or go new.

With a big block, I would go with either a '73-'87 C10 front suspension or a Porterbuilt front suspension. Nate makes them with bags or coilovers.

Shortening a '60-'62 frame ought to be a challenge.

I would seriously consider finding a '63-'66 frame, preferably a SWB. The X-frame feature on the early chassis will prove to be a major hassle when you shorten the frame. Plus, the x-frame tends to get in the way of everything you want to do when you're going custom like you're doing.

I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to scare the new guy off. I am not a fan of the '60-'62 frames at all. That X-member always seems to be in the way. I would even consider a '67-'72 frame and make the few modifications necessary to use it under a '60-'66. And as I always say when switching a frame, make sure you are following the laws in your state regarding switching a frame under a truck.
