Opinions on tires I am going to buy

I'm going to put new rally wheels and new tires on my truck within the next 3 weeks. I discussed tire possibilities with my tire shop yesterday and wheel choices. We talked about 15x8 in the front and 15x10 in the back, but in the end decided on 15x8 front and back. For tires they recommended 235/70/15 for the front and 275/60/15 for the back for a slight rake. Does this tire combo sound good? Most of the research I saw for these back sizes were opposing 255/70/15's in the front. Thanks!

Re: Opinions on tires I am going to buy

Is your truck lowered? Do you have disc brakes?

If so, you may want to rethink the wheel size combo. When you drop and add discs to a 67-70 truck the front track width gets pushed out and the 67-70 rears are already 1.5" narrower than the 71/72. What most guys do to make up for this is run a 7" front 8" rear wheel with the same backspacing, or a 8 to 8.5" front with a 9-10" rear wheel with similar back spacing, that pushes the back wheels out toward the wheel wells to better match the front.

Re: Opinions on tires I am going to buy

Thank you - you know I believe they are quoting a 7" wheel for the front - now that I look again at some paperwork. Right now the truck only has 2" blocks on the back, and the front is original. If at some point I do more lowering, I will probably go with a custom wheel of some sort.

Re: Opinions on tires I am going to buy

Just make sure the back spacing is the same or very similar. It will defeat the purpose if you have an 7" front with 4" backspacing then an 8" rear with 5" backspacing. Take your wheels off and measure face of drum to face of drum front to back and you can see how much wider the front is from the rear. I believe adding dropped disc spindles will add an additional 3/4" of track width per side.

There's a ton of wheel threads on here and google. Take your time and see what looks best to you. I looked at wheels for my 65 Mustang for MONTHS before I bought these:

I'm going to put 20's on my C10 and I STILL haven't figured out what size/BS I want.

Yes, I agree on the backspacing and will keep that in mind... thank you.

You won't get any rake with that combo. 235 70 and 275 60 are the same height.
Here's a good link for fitment checking.

Re: Opinions on tires I am going to buy

15 x 7 rallies in front with 215 70 tires. 15 x 8 rallies in back with 275 60 tires. Gives it a very nice rubber rake.
