72 k20 super question

I have found a k20 super for sale but the SPID has been destroyed. It has all the makings of a super truck with tach, tilt, a/c, but i also know u could order a plain jane super also. Has all the super badges(fender, glove box, wood grain door panel inserts,) off course the tack and tilt are long gone. So my question is does not having the SPID keep the value down for resale if i buy ig and build it as a super but dont have any official proof.?

Re: 72 k20 super question

It will only hurt if you are giving "Super" money for it. If you buy it like it is a regular C[in your case K]20 and build it, if your building to sell your gonna change stuff up along the way any how to best fit the build. Also if you are buying to build would you be trying to sell it as a Super? Well the doc problem is still gonna be there no matter how much spit and polish you do. Just some things to think on. If buying a keeper not much of a big deal but if your buying to clean and flip it may be a huge deal. Jim

Cheyenne Super is a trim option!

"...all the makings of a super truck with tach, tilt, a/c..."
These are all options independent of trim and have no bearing other than a loaded up truck is more likely to be a Cheyenne or a Super than a rebadged stripper.

"Has all the super badges(fender, glove box, wood grain door panel inserts..."
The Super badge was added below the stock Cheyenne badge and woodgrain door trim was included at the Cheyenne trim level too.
Does it have the glove box chrome/wodgrained insert? Does it have the woodgrained cluster bezel? Does it have a headliner and cargo lamp? Does it have holes for the gas tank cover carpet?

"...off course the tack and tilt are long gone."
Do you know that it had a tach or tilt as factory? Again these could be found at any trim level too.

"...does not having the SPID keep the value down for resale..."
If you can't document it as a Super then it is suspect. It's resale value is dependent on the buyer. As long as people will spend money for fakes there is a market.

As a K20 it it is far more likely to be a Cheyenne than a Super but certainly possible. A build sheet would be a "find" in this case, is it a "Z" truck?
If you want I can look at what you have as far as pictures or links and give you my opinion. PM your email.

Re: 72 k20 super question

You can search the forum for what makes a cheyenne super. Tach tilt and a.c. don't make a truck a cheyenne Super. I considered our basing a 72 cheyenne Super a few years back. It was a 6 cylinder 3 spd truck, manual brakes and steering, no a.c. it seemed to be a pretty "rare" truck, Imo, but not as "desirable" as more common v8 supers with a.c. PS and pb.

Check to be sure it has the following

Wood grain on instrument cluster and glove box door with extra outer trim on glove box door

Chrome or stainless cover on tailgate handle

It should also have stainless trim in front and rear Windows as well as chrome vent window, plastic headliner trim and vinyl insert as well as rear cargo light and door switches to activate the dome light when the doors open. These options were also present on cheyenne trucks.
