How do I install an Autometer water temp gauge - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I just bought the electric water temp gauge for use in my Camaro and not totally sure on how to install it. I didn't want to tear open the package and find out I should have gotten the mechanical gauge...
Do I just splice into the wire going to the sensor?

There is actually a sending unit which converts it so the gauge can read it. Maybe i can go dig it right now.

Hmmm, okay I didn't look close enough to know it came with it's own sender. So is it possible for me to retain the use of the stock warning light on my dash somehow?

Edit: I guess I didn't get far enough down on the posts when I initially posted this.

Don't think that will work. Put the autometer sending unit in and connect it to the guage that came with it. You can mount it under the dash or just let it lay on the floor until you figure out what it is.

If you can find another plug in the water jacket you can run both OEM and After market. I'm not sure on a I6 where one would be but BB V8 the other head has the same plugged hole. Look for a 1/2 inch square plug some where on the head.

You could run a pipe T-fitting and run both sensors, thus be able to retain your light and the new autometer gauge.
