headlight knob issue on 1970 C20

When I pull the headlight knob to turn on the lights do not come on. The only way they will is if I twist the knob as if I were dimming or brightening the cluster. And only when I am slowly turning it until I find the magic spot and then it rarely even works. I checked fuses and dimmer and they are fine. Thoughts?

I had that same problem with my switch. I took it out and cleaned it all up and that didnt help. I ended up buying a new switch at Oreillys. They are only $7.

Re: headlight knob issue on 1970 C20

Before you put your new switch in, google "headlight relay upgrade" on this site and do that upgrade. The stock design from GM has WAY too much resistance in all the wires between the battery, that switch, the dimmer switch, and the lights. Resistance = heat and heat kills the switch. When you run the headligts off the battery through a relay you eliminate about 20 feet of too small of wire, make your headlights brighter, and just repaced your last headlight switch on that vehicle.
