finally brought one home...

plain jane! original 68 shortbed fleetside, owned by a norcal farmer. lived most its life with a utility bed and an eaton 8-lug rear. came with the original black plates, and a re-coat of original color. its got minimal rust and is VERY straight, so it will be a great foundation for my new project. now i just need to find a decent bed! hope to list in the "build" section soon...

Re: finally brought one home...

It looks really straight.. Nice find. You got to love the CA trucks. Can you transfer the black plate to your name? Looking forward to seeing it in the build thread.

Re: finally brought one home...

it's registered non-op under the original plates, so i don't see any reason i can't use them. but i'll find out for sure when i get to dmv...

yes it has the original 292/4spd. according to the po it runs, but needs a head gasket (included) because it was puffing white smoke.

i have a 396/th400 that i'm gonna freshen up and drop in. i parted out a truck with it so i have all the pulleys, ps, mounts, radiator, shroud, etc. i may bolt right up to the 4-spd but haven't decided yet. my brother's trying to talk me into this a833 thing he has, but i don't know much about it yet. i have a stock 5-lug 12-bolt to replace the eaton, and i am pricing out new parts for a static 5/7 drop, notch, and discs. thinking about black 17x9" wheel vintique steelies with white letter tires. i've got enough cash for all that now, but i'll be doing good if i get it on the road this year... i've got a nice 5-piece set of original 1969 soft-ray glass with nice trim, and a set of 67-68 buddy buckets i'll install at some point too.

my long term plan is to add side moulding, 9-inch, 427/4L80E, and paint it something DARK. either black, blue, or green. but that's a ways down the road.
