rear suspension help

Got my truck outta storage what should I do for rear suspension. Right now it has cut springs. I really like the stance so I kinda wanna stay around same ride height. Should I use jeep springs, chevelle springs, lowering coils or coil overs. Kinda stumped here whats your opinion. Tried to make it a poll but couldnt figure it out lol

Some pics of it may help us determine which way to go. My first thought, though, is lowering coils. That would be the easiest and least expensive route.

If you like the stance, what's wrong with the cut springs?

Nothing really they just ride kinda ruff bounces around and doesnt hook at all. That could be from shocks not being relocated to I guess. They didnt have them when this was built lol. Tires are kinda flat in pic. They are 19.5/33 I have 31/18 to go on it. Pics are upside down lol I havent figured out how to flip them yet

Not sure I am seeing EXACTLY what I think I'm seeing.

If I am, and that's what might be called and H-Notch ,
I don't see any add'l support welded/bolted into the frame.

Also, I think I see a brake line there. Looks like it's solid to
the backing plate. Can that be?

Very cool wheels/tires.

My eyes aren't as good as they used to be.

Lowering coils are cheap. Relocate the shocks and get a longer adjustable track bar. I have all that plus short drop blocks and mine rides smooth.

Those are some fat back tires? If ur gonna drag that beast, u might want to look into coil overs, they cost more but will hold up to the beating from the strip.

You can't hook those big ol meats? Obviously lowering coil springs, but if you got the upgrades to be pushing those tires, go with coilovers.

Think these will work got them from my buddy today. Afco adjustable coil overs. Ill be starting a build thread very soon. I also have mickey thompson sr 31x18s. Gonna strip truck to frame this weekend I hope. LoL. Frame is notched and plated on both sides. Now I gotta figure out how im gonna mount them. I have plans to build my own adjustable panhard bar. Would it still need a panhard bar if I mounted the coilovers to the rear end? Thanks for all your help. I LOVE THIS SITE cant believe I didnt find it sooner

Yes. If you need one now the shocks are not going to change that.

You will still need to control the lateral position of the rear axle.

Congrats on the coil overs... Brackets should be easy but you are probaby going to have to cut or raise your bed floor to get some vertical on those.... As for the panhard, I am a fan of the watts link. Keeps the axle from shifting when it squats. If u plan to drag your truck, it's a lot of stress on the rear end thus making the entire axle shift... It's just the nature of the design... Look into a watts link.

If that is ride height its time to do some work on the frame. You need at least 4" of room above the axle for travel and a few more that that to ensure it wont bottom out.

Bed is already cut lol. Im gonna either purchase some step notches or fab my own. Being as im in canada they are hard to find unless I order off net but then I get screwed on shipping and duty at border. I will probably fab my own as I have plenty of welding experience. I was looking at a watts link. Not sure what ill do there yet. Does anyone know a place in canada to buy parts like notches and panhard bars. Ive searched but having a hard time coming up with anything. Thanks

I think im gonna add notches. Funny My dad drove this truck like this for 10 years like this with no shock relocators back in early 90s lmao. Its real stiff bounces around alot. Hes amazed when I show him some of the parts u can get for these trucks now. He says when he built it he was on a budget and there was no internet to buy all these parts and get all this help. This site rocks

2.5" - 3.5" should be more than adequate for suspension compression travel.
The Panhard bar will also work just fine on a static dropped truck.

in western canada i get some stuff from KMSTools but they aren't east of alberta. Also check some of your local GMC/Chevy dealers. If they are like www.dougmarshallgm.com in grande prairie AB they order online from sites like classic industries and get a discount/cheap shipping so the price is usualy close to the catalog price. Only down side is you have to wait for an order to be made to take advantage of the prices.

Im gonna try some dealerships. I didn know that thanks. Also I was looking at kms tools they will ship to me fairly resonable as it doesnt have to cross the border. Added that site to my favorites. Im sure quite a few parts for this truck will come from there. Thanks thats why I love this site.
