Imagine my dissapointment when....

I walked out to the back lot the other day and the neighbor had set a 68-72 short bed next to the fence. As I got closer this is what I found.

That's some nice patina, especially on the left side.

That makes me remember of the old scrap yard I took aluminum siding to who used old pickup beds as bins. Many were 67-72 GM. We'd toss it in and the fork lift took it for a ride. Those things got tossed and tipped around for years

I've seen these beds used to feed livestock, too

Boy that's gonna make the short box guys shed a tear or two. I know where there is a short box being used for a trailer. I stopped and asked the guy years ago if it was for sale ... he said sure, and it was a decent price. I drive by it now and again. Its still sitting in the same place, nothing growing over it, but obviously not being used. I consider it my secret stash in case I ever want a short box =)

Re: Imagine my dissapointment when....

Yeah, we were building a house out west of town in about 76 and they were crushing an old salvage yard on past there. It was hard to watch some of the vehicles they dragged out of there. The crushers went on a rampage here in about the last 15 years, and I've seen a lot of nice pieces go to sheet metal heaven. I followed a black Sierra Grande 2wd to the yard, but the guy wouldn't sell it. It was easier to just dump it at the yard.

Nowadays with bedsides being reproduced, how could these be worth it? All the work that would go into fixing them plus all the rust inside, in between the skins just doesn't seem worth the time.

I understand if you find one that just needs a small patch or something and it's just a daily driver.

Not many of those left in harrison for sure. Looks like that one was pulled off a wrecked one.

There is a nice red one sitting out by bowsers metal supply. Been sitting there for over a year. Not for sure if it's for sale or not.

That bed is like some actors, it has a “good side” for the cameras.

Re: Imagine my dissapointment when....

That's how most of them sit facing the road for sale, then you see the other side.

Re: Imagine my dissapointment when....

The one that was at Cottonwood Tractor looked like a really good bed. I don't know why I didn't stop and look at it. It's gone now.
