I read somewhere a guy had train horns. So he wired it to button next to his radio and marked it starter...soooo...when a guy breaks in and tries to look for the kill switch and presses the button the horns go off.

The cigarette lighter trick works by wiring it to your tach terminal. When the lighter is pushed in it will not start because the coil is grounded. Make sure you put whatever you decide on in a place that you don't need to reach for. Thieves often watch you for a while to establish habits.

If they are watching you enough to establish your habits the only thing that will help you is a good insurance policy.

I would not recommend grounding your HEI or aftermarket ignition. The lighter trick is great and can be used same as any switch. You wire it to a relay and it can be a starter kill, ignition kill or use it as a headlight switch if you want.

Re: best anti theft switch/toggle whats your thought

I did this to a guys motorcycle seat frame once-relay power from the ignition coil to the metal center of a steel aftermarket steering wheel.....and this is IF would be thief manages to get your truck started, the coil will shock the sheet out of him at 35,000+ volts! If you have a 24V starting system you can trigger several 115 decibel horn strobes mounted inside the cab-thief would be deaf and shocked sheetless in no time!

The whole point was to make the vehicle difficult to steal. Hot wiring a grounded coil doesn't work...hot wiring around a relay does. The object isn't to routinely ground out your coil, it is to keep unwanted thieves from easily taking your ride. I would rather have someone run my battery don trying to start my truck rather than try to replace it with insurance money.

I also have a normally closed momentary switch mounted on my radiator support so that when my hood is popped the horns go off. It works wonderfully. There is a hidden switch to shut it off but thieves would never find it. And the horns are incredibly loud….
