Taking a classic and making it Modern
Okay so as my name implies, I want to take my 78 c20 and make it more modern. Now I am not talking about going over the top with anything crazy and definitely not talking about 'pimping' it out. I want to keep it classic on the outside, but on the inside give it a few modern conveniences that makes our newer vehicles nice to drive. I already have a pair of black leather power/heated seats out of a newer silverado. I know I will have to modify the floor to make a little more room under the steering wheel. I have a stereo that I would like to use, either modifying the dash some, or making a custom center console. Its a double din, touchscreen, Bluetooth, hands free answering/calling, ipod/usb hook ups for music, rear view camera to make hooking up to a trailer more simple and everyday driving just that much easier. Auto meter gauges. update the suspension. Rebuild motor/trans/rear end. Only problem is, when I decide to sell it, I am not sure if there will be people out there looking for that kind of truck. Does anyone here think people would be into it? Thank you for your time. And I am not looking for people to be snobby or rude about it, there's no need for that kind of talk.

It's best to do these things to vehicles you won't end up selling. The way you see things are not necessarily the way I see them. Beauty/taste is in the eyes of the beholder so you will never really know what makes other people happy. Just yourself.
We can only make suggestions to what we like/what we THINK you like but its up to you on how the final product comes out.

At the end of the day a 30 year old truck is still a 30 year old truck and unless your chip foose you will never get back what you put into it.

Old cars and trucks are funny in that way. You may create a beautiful, comfortable and exceedingly functional truck, but an all original rust bucket may be worth more. But then, it depends on the market. These days I think the "classic" craze with Mecum and Barrett has over-inflated the car collection hobby, which of course spills into trucks as well. You can now see the damage its doing to people who bought cars as an investment, auction them, and lose big money.
You are best going into this project with no intent on selling. Create the truck you want and need. Enjoy it. And if somebody offers you a price that seems reasonable to you, sell it. If not, enjoy the truck you built.

If you build it for lets say $12,000, and drive it for a few years or about 100K miles. Then sell it it maybe worth it, but I would keep the truck for 10 years that way I got my use out of it.
Then again who knows someone may offer alot because they just want it. |

That's the downfall with these trucks. They depreciate, and never regain their true value. Buy a straight/clean square $3500 put about $1000 in the motor, $1000in the suspension and tires, not including labor...and still have to haggle with trying to get $4000 for it.
