Linkage getting stuck between gears

Hi everyone – I have a 3-on the tree and my linkage gets stuck between gears. I am thinking that I need to change out the bushings/hardware. As you can see in the picture it is really worn… Does anyone know where I can purchase this kind of hardware? I checked my LMC catalog and I did not see it in there. The three pictures are two on the column and a picture at the tran. If you have any other suggestion - always appreciate everyone advice.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Linkage getting stuck between gears

Check out this thread. I can't help you out with a rebuild kit, but this explains how to adjust the linkage to keep it from hanging up.

New bushings and hardware should fix your problem. I've bought the parts from Classic Parts up in Missouri for several linkage rebuilds over the years.

Check rockauto and see if you can pull the part numbers off and then shoppe around to see if any other parts stores or online shoppes (summit or Jegs) sells it

Re: Linkage getting stuck between gears

Before you buy ANYTHING adjust that thing or you money. The thread that was posted I didn't read of course but there is a simple guide in the FAQ or the truck tech section of the home page of this site. If you have not been there it is worth the time investment to do so. The project ideas and quick and simple fixes for thing such as the hanging linkages really pays off. I bought a 70 3oot truck and had trouble driving to my shop as the shifter would hang a bit shifting on the ride home and I adjusted as the post said and then it was like new. The bushing were worn but it shifted so much better. Jim

How to fix it? Get a rock crusher, ha ha ha ha. Or a floor shift conversion for the 3 speed. Summit just had the truck 3 speed for 40 bucks, plus it looks cool

Re: Linkage getting stuck between gears

It may just be that you need to practice shifting it ? Anybody else can try to drive my 67 and they tell me the shifter is messed up , I can drive it 7 days a week without a problem ? Is mine tore up ?

Re: Linkage getting stuck between gears

Here is how to shift a 3 on the tree !
#1 starting from 1st gear pull back on the shifter towards the steering wheel raise the shifter up to neutral while holding pressure on it towards the steering wheel this keeps the levers from trying to go in two gears at once which is what hangs them up
#2 let it fall gently towards the dash and push slightly towards the dash and raise it up into 2nd gear
#3 push gently towards the dash from 2nd gear and pull down to 3rd gear
it dont matter if the bushings are worn or not it will shift like this ,,,,,, good bushings do help

X2 on 71Sixer's link. That single quick & simple adjustment will make your 3OTT shift like (well damn close!) new.

New bushings and proper adjustment as in the link will help immensely.

That is what I did. Installed the Hurst floor conversion kit. Probably the best thing I did to this truck. Much easier shifting. No disputing that 3 ott coolness factor though.
