Unhappy rebuild/replacement engine ??s

Okay, so first off I have a 350 engine currently, no clue on previous work, it doesn't feel tired and can spin tires if I want it to. But it comes down to this, I am a high school student with a low budget and was wondering what your guys opinion was. I am thinking about possibly saving to buy a crate 350, but got to thinking and looked up some junkyard ls engine prices and it looks like I can get a 5.3 for about 500 bucks no clue if it would come with computer or not or what mileage it has. I may just be able to get piston rings and seals and be able to rebuild my current engine but I would prefer in that case since my current engine isn't stock or anything I would get the crate engine then work on mine and sell it afterwards. What do you guys think is my best option here? Current engine went through a gallon of oil in about 300 miles, that is why I have this dilemma. Any suggestions appreciated.

Re: rebuild/replacement engine ??s

I just bought a 350 HO from Jegs. Can't build the same engine for that price.
