Transmission leak/question
Hey Everyone – here is a picture of my trans… Looks like I have a leak and upon further inspection I think the leak is coming for this cable that attaches from to the side of it. Honestly I am not sure what this cable is or what it does. Is this something I can easily replace? I have not messed with it yet – is it easily removed?
Thanks Chris |

Re: Transmission leak/question
Clearer picture? The only cable I can think of is the speedo cable..... Trans type? Year? Driver or passenger side?

Re: Transmission leak/question
I believe you are right about the speedo cable. That is what I though originally. The truck is a 68 c20 250 L6. This is located on the driver side. I can take some pictures later today that are clearer when the sun comes up...
Also I believe it is a Saginaw 3 speed transmission... Chris Last edited by cbenney; 03-08-2014 at 06:37 AM. |

Re: Transmission leak/question
If its the driver side back near the tail shaft, its the speedo. The cable itself unscrews, and the drive gear and housing should have one bolt going into the trans. Its sort of like a distributor hold down. Take that off and wiggle it out. It should have a rubber o- ring on it to seal it. Hope this helps

Re: Transmission leak/question
And here's a link to see what the speedo housing looks like.
It has an outer oring to seal the housing to the tranny and an inner oring to seal the speedo gear. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Muncie-T10-4...-/321102167325 |

The part number for a new bullet with seal and o ring is ATP YA-1. You can get them many places including a Amazon or your favorite parts store.

Re: Transmission leak/question
When you get the new one make sure the inner seal is tapped all the way in.
