Sound deadener
I finished up the passengerside floor today with the sound deadener. Started at the fire wall right up against the AC box and went all the way back to the cab wall and corner of the cab. I did the back wall of the cab and doors several months ago. I ran out of material so I have to get more Monday. I hope all this is worth it. I'm going to try and get the drivers side done next week while I'm off.

Re: Sound deadener
Going to be installing a vintage air system sometime soon, was wondering should I install my sound deadener now on the firewall. (Cab is bare right now) Didn,t know if it would make the VA install harder with the mat all ready on. didn,t want to start taking any of it off after its on..

Re: Sound deadener
I wouldn't install it under the box. Not much point I wouldn't think. Not sure how it would do inside there either. It would stay moist I would think all the time.

I still need to do my doors but, along with new door seals, it's done a lot to lesson the noise.

What you are looking at is MLV. Mass Load Vinyl. From what I've read, sounding should be looked at as a system. What I did first, was do use a dynamat type material with about 35% coverage, directly on the floor, toe board, and firewall, then the rear of the cab. This material does not have to completely cover, it their to primarily reduce/eliminate harmonic vibration which creates noise. This was followed by using a two sided aluminized closed cell foam material, which I used to completely cover everything I could reach. This is to cut down primarily heat/cold transfer. It's easy to work with. This is followed by MLV which is weighs about 1lb per sq.ft. It's very dense and very heavy. This material is used for sound proofing home theaters. It will reduce noise migration. It's stiff and doesn't like to bend in multiple directions, so I ended up using as few pieces as possible. This was place on top of the aluminized material. Of course I followed that with carpet padding and then carpet. So in my case it's a 5 layer system. If you'll google search MLV, you'll find several articles on the subject. Glad to hear that your doors sound much better. I still need to tackle my doors.

Re: Sound deadener
Thanks for the heads up. I remember reading on the Audio section about it now. I will have to check on it. I used fat mat and the bulbble wrap stuff and carpet so far I may do the MLV stuff as well.
I wear hearing aids so any unwanted noise I can cut out will be nice!

Re: Sound deadener
I did as the local Stereo guy told me to do it. I cut a 12"x12" peice to go in center of door then 4 peices 6"x6" and put in each corner of the door as close to the corner as I could reach them. I also put a strip along the bottom on the inside skin of the door. Here is the link to how and what I used. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=605236

Re: Sound deadener
Also put some in the "b" pillars and in gap behind dome light. Also reach as high as possible into bedsides and put 12x12 sheet in area before and after wheel. Doors and floor make difference but these other make it even better.
