LT1in a 57. alternator wiring help needed

I installed a LT1/4L60E, in a 57 3100. The engine runs strong and I'm buttoning up the remaining issues and readying the truck for paint. I researched online on wiring up the alternator, and learned that I need to run a 12 volt switched positive lead to the alternator, to the exciter. This "turns on" the alternator. I read that the wire needed a 470ohm in line resistor. I went to radio shack and bought a 470 ohm resistor. Not knowing which "watt" to buy, 1 watt or 1/2 watt, I bought both. I soldered in a 1 watt resistor. The plug from the original wiring harness has only 2 brown wires. I could only find online that the "L" terminal was to have the 12 volts with resistance. I did that and have no charge from the alternator. I'll remove it and have it tested, just to make sure it works, and rule out a bad alternator. But I believe it will test okay.
Has anyone out there had any experience with this? I would really appreciate some instruction and advice. Pictures would be amazing. Thanks in advance. Jason

There is info on the net for hooking up those alternators. You can probably finding it by putting the model of the alternator in a search.

I think you are pretty well on the right track from what I read on those pages. A guy sold me a CS130 at a yard sale for 3 bucks with a bracket on it so I'm interested in how they hook up. I didn't need the bracket so it goes in the swap meet box as I am not sure what engine it goes on.

71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
