Rag Joint part# needed.

I have a Cardone P/S box # 27-7501 which is supossed to fit 68-76 Chev truck. It has a GM or Saginaw #7802644 part # on it. Looking for a rag joint to fit.
I purchased a Dorman #31015 which states should fit varios 73-90 GM's.
It does not want to slid on easy.
I contacted Dorman tech support and they said #31015 is 13/16 ID with 20 spline. They could not cross reference to Cardone.
I contacted Cardone and all they said was that the #27-7501 had 31 splines.
And they could not cross reference to Dorman. I believe they out sorce over seas for tech support. I realise the rag joint doesn't have as many splines but also doesn't spline all the way around.
The box is rebuilt and the rag joint is new. Looks like the spline on box is rounded over slightly, could possibly file splines a bit but since it is rebuilt I don't want to start altering it unless I have to.
Another member said he had a Lares rag joint that just slid on his but I could not get a part# out of him. I am thinking it was a #201 but not sure.
Any help would be appreicated as I would like to do this swap this month.
Thanks Cal.

Re: Rag Joint part# needed.

How many splines is the steering box that you have? Should be Saginaw manufactured and 7802644 is the GM part #.

Re: Rag Joint part# needed.

I have a PS box off a 75 and it has a 13/16-36 input shaft. i picked up a rag joint on e-bay for it. And it did not go on easy. never heard of a 13/16-20 spline. I thought they were either 3/4-30 or 13/16-36, but i may be wrong..

1963c-10 You are correct on the P/S box #
I counted 31 splines on it.
It is the rag joint part # I am looking for.
I have gone over the P/S section in the FAQ section several times and no mention of rag joint part # other than to get on that fits the box.
Thanks Cal.

vidman. I counted 31 splines on my box but the shaft has a flat spot on it.
It may have 36 splines if not for the flat spot.
The rag joint I have I counted 19 slines but the spline part only goes approx. 1/2 way around.
If yours was not easy then I might try more pressure to get it on.
I just don't want to mess up my spline on the box.
Some how I just thought that with the amount of members that have done this that they might have kept the part numbers handy.
Thanks Cal.

Re: Rag Joint part# needed.

Just to put this to bed.
The Cardone 27-7501 P/S box uses a Dorman 31015.
It was a tight fit but tapped on nicely.
