55 chevy emergency brake

Hi,

I am hoping that someone has had this problem before so I don't have to re-invent the wheel.
I am try to set up an emergency brake for my 55 Chevy pickup that has a Camaro clip and Camaro rear end. I am missing the original E-brake handle and the rods that attach to it. I have a foot pedal setup from a Chevy Lumina that I am going to use. Here is the question. What cables should I use on the rear axle? Should I use Camaro components or the original 55 Chevy truck stuff going from the rear axle to the lever that's mounted on the midpoint of the frame? If so will the 55 cables hook up to the backing plate and arm inside the brake drum?

Thanks

Re: 55 chevy emergency brake

I used the cables from the rear that I used and the cross bar and cable wheel from the truck and a foot pedal from a C10.
The cables will come up short so you need the C shaped cable connectors and get 2 short cables made up to connect the rear cables to the cross bar. Get another made to go from the bar to the foot pedal

Thanks Dave,

Where do you buy the materials to make up your own cable?

FYI- The link posted above is no longer active since Control Cables recently changed there website. Here is the new link. http://controlcables.com. They can make just about anything you need for custom cables.

Re: 55 chevy emergency brake

you would be surprised how generic e-brake cables are. hit the pick & pull and check out the GM trucks and vans.
