What engine?

Trying to determine what year model and size engine I have. I was told it was a 350 but just trying to verify. Here is a pic I took. Stamped 28GM 3970010. Any other number I need?

Re: What engine?

I asked the GOOGLE and this is what it said....

3970010 is the block casting #. That # you listed was used on all of chevys 4.000"
bore engines

Look on the right cylinder block in from of the head. There's a machined surface and the engine codes should there if the block has not been milled. Should be 2 set of characters, one it the engine code and the other the VIN derivative. Look something like the following.

T1024TFD engine code
If the first letter in the suffix is the letter T, its a truck engine. C its a car engine.

hope that helps cheers

Re: What engine?

Hi welcome I have the same numbers on the back...
350-010 blocks
some feel it containing more "nickel"content, makes the block stronger
some find 2 or 4 bolt mains are possible
the "orange" block finished up in 78,but some are blue

Re: What engine?

Thats a 327/350 cast. Ive got two 350's with that casting. One's a two bolt. One's a four bolt. They're the "high nickel" blocks, supposed to run a little cooler. Mine was .060 over, i could run it on a 95 degree day through the dunes all day long and never touch 200 degrees. They seem to be one of the most desireable 327/350 blocks.
