Lifting engine
I pulling the engine out of my truck. The engine hoist I have has L brackets for the lifting points, I am unable to mount them to the back of the head. I was wondering if it would be alright to lift it using the intake bolts?

I HAVE A PLATE THAT MOUNTS ON THE CARB MOUNTING BLOTS

Most auto parts store's sell a plate that bolt's to the intake in place of the carb,I got one and it work's killer..

ive always used a chain and bolts throught he chain into any two bolt holes i could find on the motor either head bolts, intake ,etc

are they guarantee'd not to break ..... call me paranoid but i dont know if i'd trust 575 lbs to a small weld .... but i dont know much about it ..beuase ive never pulled an engine

i've been using the same piece of chain for 35years just a couple of bolts in the head and hav'nt had a problem

Just be careful...........there was a post some months back where someone had a 502 crate motor hit the ground because the hoist collapsed

lifting with the plate mark has works just fine i use the same plate have used em on ford big blocks which weigh 850lbs they wont break believe me

I put 1 bolt in the front of one head and a bolt in the back of the other and lifter it on out.

I use the "L" brackets. I attach the four brackets to the intake manifold using four bolts that are 1/2 in. longer than the originals. I get better control of the engine especially when removing engine and transmission together.

What about an aluminum manifold?
Has anyone used one of the intake plates on a aluminum manifold to lift an engine? I was afraid to try...
