New guy here

Hey guys my name is Josh.
I live in Amarillo, Texas and I run a Construction Company here.
I just recently came across a 53 Pickup for just about free
so it is in my garage now I have begun working on it but oh it
has a long way to go. I am about to remove the inline 6 and 3 speed
and trash those cause they were left to the weather. I am missing the front
nubs, brakes etc. I am looking for advice and parts as well lol.
Look forward to learning from you guys.

My other project is a 72 Camaro Z28 Pro-Tour which has been pretty fun
thus far building

Whaaaa? Are you trying to show us up?

ALL our trucks pretty much looked like they came out of a dumpster when we first got them. Some worse than others, but not many of them were even driveable.

Re: New guy here

Welcome. Hubs and brakes are not a big deal unless you want to lower it using the stock front suspension. Even then it would be a good opportunity to upgrade to discs...

and we do like pics, especially of "as found" so we can see the progress...

Re: New guy here

Trashing the 6 and 3 speed is the best thing you could do. Get rid of those boat anchors.

I've been looking into the Vortec 4200 for my 54. I'm sure these guys are tired of hearing about it. I'm planning on keeping the stock frame and straight axle though.

With the 5.3, you'll probably want to do a sub-frame frontend swap. The AD trucks had a pretty narrow frame to begin with. Your inner fender liners will more than likely need to be removed or seriously hacked from what I've seen from the guys with LS engines.

Since you're getting rid of the Trans, I'm sure the torque tube is on it's way out also.

Most guys are swapping in S10 rearends. Some Ford 9". I think it all depends on what you can come up with.

Re: New guy here

It will need a bit of buffing. Are those Diamo rims of the Ford?

I'll disagree a little. My 53 has a 5.3 LS that fits nice using the stock frame rails and only minor modification to the inner fenders. Something to consider! Good luck with the project!
