Hei where to hook up 10 gauge wire ????

WELL, i,am installing a coil in cap hei dist. I was told I need to not use the factory hot wire going to coil as its a resistor (9 volt) and go to a 10 gauge wire. my question is where are you fellas hooking up the 10 gauge wire to in order to get 12 volts ? i know where it hooks on distributor but where does other end hook to ? all help is appreciated. I searched hi and low on this site for info and couldnt find it.

I plugged mine into an unused spade connector on the fuse box labelled "IGN Unfused".

Re: Hei where to hook up 10 gauge wire ????

Here are a couple good threads on this subject. I did mine as VetteVet suggests in post 20 of the first link. That way it appears more like the original, and I didn't have to run another wire inside the cab and use a terminal on the fuse block.

Edit: I used a wire and connector from a mid-70s to 80s Chevy truck and maintained the resistor wire, disconnected at both ends, in case someone wants to use it in the future.

i prefer to take the original harness apart and eliminate the original resistor wire and put the new wire in that place and wrap the harness up to look stock as it came from the factory// i've always just used 12ga wire with good results

Yup, 12 ga. works just fine. IMO, 10 ga. is overkill, looks too fat, and being somewhat stiffer makes it a bit harder to handle.

Re: Hei where to hook up 10 gauge wire ????

SEEINGS I,AM crippled getting to the factory harness would make life difficult for me so today I bought 6 ft of #10 wire so I,am gonna find the ign. unfused in the fuse block and try to go that route. then just tape up real good the stock wire so it wont ground out. this will keep my truck as close to stock as possible. thanks fellas you fellas really come thru when t counts.
regards

Re: Hei where to hook up 10 gauge wire ????

ok i see there is a correct wire connector available for the tach and batt connection on the dist. cap. do you fellas know if NAPA or the like has these as replacement parts, i like to do things as right as possible. I know a spade wire connector will work but the correct connector would be nice.
