shifter

im wondering what you guys are doing as far as being able to shift the 4l60e or 4l80e with the factory steering column shifter, i have no room for the linkage system that was there for the th350 because of my long tube camaro 98-02 headers

Re: shifter

I used the Lokar ACA-1800. I had to bend a new rod for it, but it works good.

I am using a stock tilt column and I originally bought one of the gear indicator lenses that have the extra overdrive spot, but I could not get it to line up right. The reverse is to close to the park. I know some guys say they got it to work but i got tired of trying. So I used the original lenses and got the pointer lined up perfectly on park, reverse, neutral and drive (overdrive). It is only slightly off on 1, 2 and 3. When you put it in 1st it is just under the 1.

Three rod that came with the Lokar kit was too short. I bought some 5/16" stainless steel rod and bent it to fit. I also threaded both ends because I did not like the set screws that Lokar uses on the transmission side.

Re: shifter

The shift detent that is inside the column is different from a 3 speed automatic to a 4 speed automatic, so you will likely never get it perfect, but you can usually get from park to overdrive to line up right, which is what most people use 90% of the time anyway.
