The 47-48 and some 49 Chevy and GMC had a center mount and its a PIA to get at . You need to do it from under the truck.

Re: 1949 gmc, rear, cab mount.. NOT chev

I rebuiilt the center shackle on my '47 GMC and the kit from
Classic Parts was good except the new rubber bumpers that the cab corners sit on were round instead of rectanglular and were also 1/4" higher than originals. I used them as is thinking the old ones may have been worn or taken a set. The shackle went back in but needed a 1/4" spacer to bolt up with no strain on it. When I did the front cab mounts I spaced the front up 1/4" to keep the same attitude. I will also have to add 1/4" under the radiator frame to lift the fenders as well.
If you buy a shackle rebuild kit let us know how it goes.
Also, could you post a picture or two of the sheet metal that house the center shackle. Mine is so shot and hatcheted that I need something to go by to close it back up.
