Well Saturday I got bit by the "motivation bug". Hung my front clip on my project. It is not "final" because I am having some fitment issues with the drivers fender. If I align the bottom of the fender with the rocker panel the fender is about a 3/16 high at the top. I don't remember it being that way before. I think I need to go back to the radiator support and maybe look there. Any other advice from the veteran builders (or anyone) is welcome. Here are a few pictures.

I don't get it. I posted them from photobucket with the [img] tags before and after. I will try again. In the preview the pictures are there. When I look at the thread after the fact they are there also.

Usually the bottom of the fender sits lower than the door sill line, factory issue. I did not notice it on mine until someone else mentioned it.

Thanks Orrie.... I will have to adjust the passenger side then. I got it "pretty close" at the top and bottom. Not sure why the drivers side will show a larger difference. Maybe I'll look at the radiator support panel and see if I can account for it there.

I was on my cell phone so will add a little more since I am at the computer. Most fenders just run long, they miss-made some of the dies and since these were just work trucks it was not worth doing over. Get the top at the cab and hood good and see if you can live with it. IF it really bothers you the fix is to cut the bottom section of the fender off and raise it. You also have to do vertical pie cuts to get the wheel well opening to flow without a sharp change in direction. I think I said this once before, I did not worry about it because only fall down drunks, short children and dogs will notice.

I'd think that the most important thing is having the style line aligned with the style line on the door. It looks like you are pretty close on that on both sides both lined up at the door gap and on one straight line through both pieces. You get that line off even a bit and no one will ever notice the bottom of the door as the whole truck will look out of wack.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
