Can someone decode this vin as to the date the truck was made??? early or late 69??

I don't think you'll find a definate answer without a build sheet, but you can make an educated guess based on that VIN. Since each plant used the last 5 digits as a sequential #, yours was at least half way through the model year run at the St Louis plant.

Not sure why you want to know but this info may help.

Blue, your truck was built in St.Louis, like mine and the one my son had. Apparently, the VIN's have the number "8" starting the sequence of the last 6 in the VIN's.

In looking at my 1969 Chevrolet Truck Data Manual, there are actually 10 locations for the manufacture of these trucks. Here I'm hazarding a guess as to the 7th digit of the VIN. I may be wrong, but hopefully folks will look at their VIN's and the letter code for the assembly plant and we will maybe learn a little bit more about deciphering VIN's.

Plant code letter/city 7th digit (first #of last 6 in VIN
A / Atlanta 1xxxxx (?)
B / Baltimore 2xxxxx (?)
F / Flint 3xxxxx (?)
Z / Fremont 4xxxxx (?)
J / Janesville 5xxxxx (?)
N / Norwood 6xxxxx (?)
P / Pontiac 7xxxxx (?)
S / St. Louis 8xxxxx from what I have seen
T / Tarrytown 9xxxxx (?)
1 / Oshawa ___ you tell me

The VIN's that I have seen for trucks built in St. Louis all have an "8" for the 7th character of the VIN.

Check your VIN's and compare the plant code letter with the number that follows it, and let me know how I've done at guessing.

To answer your question, I'd say yours was the 49,915th vehicle built in St. Louis, during 1969. Mine was the 12,417th built. As for when it was built, I don't know. My son's '69 was the 67,820th. How many vehicles did St. Louis build?

The manual indicates that all VIN's start with (for example) with a "1" in the 7th position of the VIN, i.e., CS139F100043.

Did you check for the rose head rivets on the vin plate? Not a sure fire way to tell since they have become available but a parts quality truck might not of had that attention to detail if the vin tags were swapped. I'm not positive but also not sure if '69 had the vent lines running up into back corner of the cab or not like later years. I believe that may have started in '70 but not sure. Since I've been known to make errors, I'll offer a disclaimer, but I'm pretty sure the pillar vent didn't show up until '71 at the earliest.

Look on the door under the latch. If you are lucky, the sticker is still there stating the build month.

My 72 Blazer is #30,250 and was built in Nov '71. But it also was built in Flint, not St. Louis.
