I have a set of 18" Centerlines and recently had my wheel brake apart. I had just come off the Highway at 80 mph, but luckly I was just making a low speed u-turn when it happened.

I thought I broke a ball joint, but once I got out I saw the broken wheel I about crapped myself.

Centerline has the wheel now and they are inspecting it. It is easy to tell by looking at the center section that the welds did not penatrate the wheel center very well at all. The bad thing is they don't make the wheel any more and I may have to buy a new set of wheels.

Let's see what type of company Centerline is. The right thing to do, if in fact they don't have any extras like that would be for them to replace your whole set for a new set of your choice, in the same price range. That is what customer service should be when they make a mistake.

I wouldn't trust those wheels even if you could replace the bad one. Consider yourself lucky you weren't in heavy traffic making a quick maneuver.

At first they were not to nice about it because I bought them used from a friend of mine, but this wheel was in perfect condition. Once I explained the situation with it coming apart they and that they were on a show truck before and now a truck that is rarely driven Centerline was a little more responsive.

Right now they are doing a test to see if the center can be rebuilt, but even if they rebuild it I'm going to get a new set of wheels. I just don't trust these wheels any more. I have a similar Centerline wheel on my wifes 4x4 Diesel Excursion and I wondering if the wheels can handle the load.

I'm interested to see how well Centerline handles it.

I hope they do the right thing and replace all 4 wheels.
You could have been hurt or hurt someone else. These companys make millions of dollars and will try to put the blame on you and not there product to save couple dollars.
CenterLine will most likely take care of you, it just sucks because of what could have occured when the wheel broke. Keep us posted.

If they are as reputable as they seem, they should offer you a new set of wheels. I'm sure they don't want something like this to spread. It will be another Ford Explorer/Firestone fiasco and they would stand to lose a wack of business

I wanna know what they do. If they dont take care of you it might just make me wanna sell my centerlines, and get another brand that I can trust a bit better. Ive had mine for 4-5 years. Car wasnt driven much but it was drivin hard. No probs yet.

uhm,,,the warranty is NOT tranferable, it only applies to ORIGINAL purchaser,,,,(you told them you were second owner),,,,,they have alot of "overstocked wheels on theyre website at 70% off.maybe you can work something out with those,,,,,,,just an idea!!,,,jeff http://www.centerlinewheels.com/

Jeff your right it’s not a transferable warranty. I knew it wasn't when I called them, but I told them the truth and so far they have been good about it.

I'm not trying to run them down, but I think they have an opportunity to make a good customer an even more loyal one.
Even if it cost me some money for new wheels I would jump at the chance and still come away happy.

Like I said I will be interested to see how it all comes out.

One other thing to do would be to report it to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission. There may be a RECALL that Centerline is interested in doing to avoid a substantial liability situation that could bankrupt them if there is an accident involving death or serious injury involving the ORIGINAL purchaser.

I think is is good that you have posted this to let us all know. Glad you weren't hurt. Hope Centerline and you find a happy medium to agree on.

Like everyone pretty much said, I would think that Centerline would be falling all over themselves to get you a new set of wheels at no charge.

Every set of aftermarket wheels you buy you are taking a chance of this happening. They are NOT required to x-ray the wheels for aftermarket. OEM manufacturers are required to have every wheel x-rayed or ultrasonically tested. The aftermarket stuff can just roll off the line. Some companies do it on their own, but not everyone and not on every kind of wheel they make. When I get my new wheels, I am taking the to work and having the x-ray techs shoot them on film. I want to know if I can trust them. I would hate to get a wheel that had bad penetration on the welds or was full of shrink. I've built wheel inspection machines and seen some of the bad ones that come down the line for OEM, and you can't tell from the outside there is anything wrong. But when you see the huge holes around the lugs or around the spokes, you know why they don't want them going on cars.

I spoke with Centerline today and they are going to build me a new wheel and ship it to me. I have since checked all of the remaining wheels for cracks in the welds and don't see any, but I still think I'm getting new wheels.

Considering I'm not the original owner I think that is about the best I can expect. I'm excited to get my truck back on the road either way.

I would be leary of driving the truck myself. They should have requested the complete set of four for testing. Could have been a machine out of adjustment on the assembly line. They should be able to tell you if they were all in the same batch by the serial number maybe. IMHO Get rid of em, not worth the risk.

One of them came apart.
The company that made it will rebuild it and return it to you.
You still have three of these wheels on your truck.
They have not been tested.
You are accepting this as a solution.
Your mother will miss you.

I have never owned a set of centerlines but this is the second one I have heard of coming apart.I don't think I will ever own a set of centerlines but it wouldn't matter what brand of wheel they were I wouldn't ride on them.It is like putting a set of Firestone tires on your explorer to replace the ones that flew apart at hiway speeds.

I would go back to factory wheels before I would accept that Centerline will repair and return the wheel.

Just my $0.02 worth.
