Like Yossarian19, I used a hydraulic switch from an '81 VW/Porsche/Audi (and many other years):



From left to right, this pic shows the check valve (blue), the pressure switch with rubber boot on it, then my proportioning valve.

The switch has both a normally closed and a normally open contact.
