1972 Cheyenne Super - Dallas CL - not mine

This is a 72 Cheyenne Super listed on the Dallas Craigslist. It is a really nice looking truck, but the SPID doesn't look right to me. I know there are some variations in type-face (etc), but the thing that really jumps out at me is the 115wb on the SPID with the model number is listed as CE10934. Doesn't the"9" digit mean long bed? What do the experts say?
Thanks,
Mike

Nice truck but the SPID is odd. Have you called the owner to see if he has any other documentation for the truck?

The font is wrong on the SPID. The factory SPID has "crisp" letters, not those fancy ones.

The one I am posting is from chipflyer's site

No, I have not called yet. I am thinking about calling when I get home from work tonight to see what kind of documentation he might have.

I saw your truck in another thread with the new wheels on the back. That is a sharp looking truck, either with the new wheels on the back or with the rallies.

I'd be interested in having a look at the grease pen thats partly covered by the A/C on the firewall. It looks like a 10734, but it's hard to tell, and if they re painted then it wouldn't much matter whats written there. Just a thought.

If it was a bogus SPID, why didn't they just shorten the wheelbase number while they were at it. The SPID is probably legit. I've seen others in different fonts show up now and again. The add doesn't claim it to be a factory SWB, just factory orange Cheyenne Super. Its probably a shortened LWB.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super - Dallas CL - not mine

That is a typed up SPID. Most ot the codes and descriptions seem correct except "sport". The conflict between the wheelbase and the model number is a real problem too. Of course the mirrors don't match the SPID either. Thinking this truck was built years ago and the seller may not know or care if it is original or correct. Calling that seat cover a houndstooth tells me a lot.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super - Dallas CL - not mine

What Tim said... I'd scull away from this one if I wanted a real Cheyenne Super. The 10934 and 115 would kill it for me, personally. Even if it WAS legit, good luck if you ever sell it, butt-snipes like us would pick it apart again...

If you just want a sweet truck, then this is a nice one. But the price appears to be in legit Cheyenne Super territory to me. My 2 cents only. It IS nice, but too many flags for me if I was buying it to have a real one. If it's not real, and I didn't care about that, I'd certainly consider it at a lower, non-Super price.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super - Dallas CL - not mine

Mike I have a 72 Super long wheel base truck originally from Villa Rica. I've known the truck since new so I know the SPID is correct. I also have three build sheets and the original one owner title to back it up. Compare this SPID to the one in Dallas. Thanks for the comments on the 71 Super. I'm still not sure on the 20" wheels, my gut tells me that I will have to lower the truck for it to look right.
