Painting a new crate motor
 . Has anyone here painted a new black 350 crate motor? I am about ready to install my new crate motor (Thanks, JEG'S). I am not crazy about a black motor and I'm thinking Chevy Orange. Do I need to "scuff" the factory paint or simply tape and spray?

Scuff... grind down all of the casting texture, smooth the corners, blend the block and heads, hit it with a DA and make that baby shine. Then cover it in paint.
No sane people do this much prep, not even on high end roadster builds. I do and the results are awesome. Makes the color brighter and is much easier to clean.
