The part number is the same. for both the chrome and the plastic. I know from experience on mine. It is NOS but has plastic letters. Same part number.

HERE is an old discussion about it.

One thing worth noting, many of the aftermarket ones have a little bit different wood grain pattern. Not much but enough to drive me nuts. I have been in search of a set of GM chrome letters for years. They don't come up often and when they do, they're snatched up quick.

Dave, I have one that has what appear to be chrome plated letters. But some of the chrome has stuck to the wrapping.
