40/20/40 split bench seat upgrade?

I've been kicking around the idea of swapping out my bench seat for a 40/20/40 with folding center console from a 99+ silverado or Sierra. Does anyone here have any experience with this upgrade? How extensive is the fabrication to make them work? I can get a complete seat for $70 so It's hard to pass up. I've searched the forum and couldn't find what I was looking for. Thanks for the help.

Re: 40/20/40 split bench seat upgrade?

millions of post on this.......ill give you this advice get a ford seat from a newer f250. almost a direct bolt in and they fit the cab perfect. the gm seats set way to high and require some work to get to set right.

Re: 40/20/40 split bench seat upgrade?

I thought the GM seats might be too high because they have a flat floor. I'll start looking for some F250 seats. Thanks for the help

Re: 40/20/40 split bench seat upgrade?

What years will an F250 seat work? Are they a similar layout to GM's 40/20/40? The reason I want to upgrade is purely for the fold down center console. But I don't want to give up the middle seat because I have two boys that just love riding in Daddy's truck.

That is definitely a nice looking setup. Just have to hope I find the right color.

Re: 40/20/40 split bench seat upgrade?

Hmm..... This is very interesting..

Might have to think about doing this myself in the somewhat near future! Only trouble is I have yet to plant my posterior on a Ford seat that wasn't about a 22 on the Rockwell scale.....

Josh, did you notice any Fords about those years at the junkyard when we were there the other day?

Re: 40/20/40 split bench seat upgrade?

I am really looking into doing this exact thing for my crew. My cousin has the seats already and was planning on putting them in. How comfortable are these seats though? I feel like it may be sacralige to put ford seats in....

I haven't found that to be the case, not by a long shot..at least comparing newer specimens of the 2 brands....

The Chevy bench in my '78 is out of a newer truck, but it is still in very good shape and I find it very comfortable. But I'm with my brother the OP, I would like a fold down center seat for the storage and arm rest when there are less than 3 riding in the cab..

have you driven a new f250 or f150 xlt? twice as good of seat as my 04 and my friends 09. now the xl trucks arent that great. the f150 in 05 was claimed to be the most comfortable seat made by all car reviewers too.

That could be the difference... Newest Ford I have driven is an '08 F250. It wasn't the worst seat by far, but not quite as comfy as my '06 Silverado IMHO. Both cloth seats, so fairly comparable.

I guess I'm taking from my experiences with older models....

Re: 40/20/40 split bench seat upgrade?

The last comfy GM seat I remember was from my 98 regular cab K1500, split bench. My 05 crew with split bench and my current 06 Yukon XL with factory leather buckets... suck compared to the 04 F150 Lariat I had. Now that was a damn nice seat.

Ford has been winning the interior/cabin/cockpit award for a decade now, at least. Tis why I love the older GM's, can't get the same love for the newer ones.

Re: 40/20/40 split bench seat upgrade?

some ppl are shorter have longer legs etc... so some cars pp love the seats while others dont. some ppl like big bolster and stuff like that i hate it. i dont use lumbar at all either.

not the ford seats thats the gm seats due to there huge height cause new gms do not have a raised floor. iirc the bolt holes have to be slotted some on superduty seats. looked pretty simple.
