Header and CPP mount issue

Well I just got my old headers back from the coating company. In the month they had them I received and mounted the motor with new CPP mounts. Went to put the headers in today, and passenger side is pretty far off on fitment, running into the mounts.

Driver side fits okay, but close:

Anyone have any ideas, or at least know of headers that DO fit well?

Re: Header and CPP mount issue

Hehe mounts are brand new! Doh! Would hate to try new aftermarket mounts and figure out they still don't clear, versus shelling out a bit more for headers that someone already knows WILL clear. Problem is I don't remember what headers I do have . . as I bought them 10 years ago or so.

I know stock mounts work, but really don't like the single bolt through the center of the mount. It always seems to separate.

Re: Header and CPP mount issue

Man that sucks. I like those CPP mounts but I'm afraid my headers won't fit around them. I'm just going to use the originals. They worked for 50 years I guess they'll work another 50.

Re: Header and CPP mount issue

Yeah I guess I'll reuse the original mount and see if I can find a better quality rubber mount than before.

Re: Header and CPP mount issue

Those headers look like car headers to me. If you had headers made for a truck, they would likely clear those engine mounts.

Re: Header and CPP mount issue

You're likely right. Now I just have to decide if I'd rather have these freshly coated headers or new engine mounts, with the former costing about 3x more to replace.

Re: Header and CPP mount issue

Check with the vendors here for the Prothane 7-509BL mounts. Put the stock stands back in. Or you could trim the CPP mounts, my first choice.

Re: Header and CPP mount issue

I'd have to trim a lot on the CPP mount to make the passenger side fit. It's over an inch off at the back. I'll double check but I'm afraid I'd compromise the mount doing so. The support shafts stem directly from the top, so I'd be cutting into the tubular shafts to grind the mount down. Perhaps I can grind it down flat and then weld it back together, but not sure how much changing the shape affects the integrity.

Re: Header and CPP mount issue

I'd sell the headers and get some that fit...if you bought them 10 yrs ago you might make money on the deal! Those mounts are too nice to cut up...

I agree....I'd keep the mounts and find the proper headers for the truck.

Re: Header and CPP mount issue

I ended up ordering these: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HED-69890

They should clear the mount and work with my angle plug heads. Just have to find a new hike for my old headers. Inc Craigslist!
