First truck help

I am a 16 year old kid, live in central Wisconsin, I am looking to purchase a 67-72 shorted chevy. I have been looking on craigslist and most of what you find are long beds or a swb frame and cab missing the bed. I don't want to waste time shortening a long bed or trying to track done a box for a shortbed somewhere. I am wondering where I could find a decent truck. I have about $2,500 and saving ever paycheck. Any help is much appreciated, Thanks.

I surf c-list at least once a week, always curious, though I already found my LWB. I can't remember the last decent SWB, at a reasonable price, I saw within WI or our neighboring states.

It would seem that you certainly would get ALOT for your money with that purchase, maybe even sell off some of the parts and find that you're money ahead.

most important is to find a truck that is in good running condition. something that someone has shown some attention with new parts, etc.

I would save up more $$ and buy the best truck you can, especially since you want a swb. On the other hand, a new bed is just a phone call away from any vendor. if I had a good deal on a truck just needing a bed I would do it.

Look toward California or Washington/Oregon for a mostly rust free truck ,probably more money up front but cheaper than repairing rust .

Just keep searching, they popup quite often. Use a sight like searchtempest to broaden your search and save time.

The further west and south you can go, generally the better truck you will buy. There are times I wish I would have done just this as my truck has more rust than I would like and more keeps revealing itself the more I work on it. But its the truck I wanted and can always repair it.

yeah I check ebay, craigslst, this site every couple days. I would travel a couple hundred miles I guess, we drove to indiana to get my brothers mustang and that wasn't too bad. I really do want a shortbed though. Also I'm saving as much money as I can haha 400 bucks a month isn't the most but I'll get there. Thank for the help so far everyone!!!

I think it will be best to drive to arizona or alabama Etc. To get a truck. got quoted about a grand to get it shipped here.

Don't forget north and central texas. There was a nice ochre swab fleet on Dallas craigslist for $6k last week. Looked like a $4k truck to me.

Take your time Schmoldt. The biggest mistake we (usually) make is getting into a hurry. I joined this site BEFORE I got too far into restoring my truck in order to get more info.

I also think you'd be better off saving up a lot more money and getting a better truck to start with rather than trying to fix up a cheaper one. I do some woodworking....more than most anyone I know actually. Yes, one can get pallet boards for free BUT those will need a lot of planing, sanding, and repair BEFORE one can use them for a project. That's going to require a lot of tools, time, and effort (money). It's actually cheaper to just buy finished wood from a lumberyard.

yeah I'm trying hard haha I might borrow some money from my parents. From what I see for around 3,500-5,000 dollars will get me a solid project from a southern state. Planning on getting late summer or right before snow falls next winter.

Yea you might be able to find a really rusted and busted up swb for 2500. For a pretty good shape one probably double. I paid 6000 for my swb and it's only got some surface rust.

yeah I don't want to have to put up with rust. I could care less about the motor, we have a couple small blocks laying around. But hopefully it will get a 5.3Ls

Almost all of them have rust for that price you will only get a rust free one, for probably nothing less than 10,000 because those ones have already gone through a restoration.

Biggest advice is go look at it before making a deal, I am speaking from experience. I love my truck but I bought online and had it shipped and there more rust than expected and the things that were described as done, were not up to my expectations. Just want to make sure you don't overpay and find a solid truck. As mentioned above, they will have rust, just pick out the one with less. Good luck and welcome to the boards!!

yeah i figure down south "rust" won't compare to any old farm truck or what have you thats been sitting in wisconsin or surrounding state for 40 plus years.
