Refuse to junk stuff?

Any of you fellow chevy guy refuse to junk these old parts. I've got these old pair of lower control arms for a 3/4 ton. I know there isn't hardly anyone who ever would need these but I can't see them go to make a new ford, oh wait there are aluminum and plastic. But you get what I mean. It just breaks my heart to see good old steel being turned into new cars when someone needs it. Is anybody else a packrat

Re: Refuse to junk stuff?

I bought the house next to mine to use as a storage shed...I tend to hold on to good reusable stuff.

You guys sound like my wife. She's got stuff she bought 20 or 25 years ago -- long before I came into the picture -- and stacked it in the corner. But we can't get rid of it because she "might" use it someday!

Well, my wife is the same way..... but old truck parts are different!

I still have the OEM front springs (sagged), steering wheel (cracked), points ignition, painted outside mirrors & front bumper, air cleaner (with all the tin), misc. molding, AM radio, fender emblems, and probably a few other old bits that I have removed from my K20 over the years. Just can't let them go, because well, they are old truck parts!

However, I scrap anything that's truly junk, like old rubber floormats, brake pads (& shoes & hoses), mufflers, oil seals.....

Re: Refuse to junk stuff?

I have a hard time getting rid of anything. I did 4-5 Disc Brake conversions on various vehicles in the late '80s - early 90's. Could not bear to throw away the drum stuff. Finally after moving it to 3 houses I sold all of them to the scrapper before my last move. I sold about 10,000 lbs of scrap last go but still moved a 40' trailer of parts and shop tools. Does that count?

Re: Refuse to junk stuff?

If it isn't being used it gets sold, chucked, or recycled.

Re: Refuse to junk stuff?

I keep only what I know I can use and is in good shape. The rest gets sold or scrapped. That said, I still have 2 storage units full of parts....

Re: Refuse to junk stuff?

I have too much stuff. Im getting better at letting parts go. I have been hauling parts like you mentioned off and selling it for short steel. I started out by hauling off things I hadn't used in ten years. Im now down to stuff I haven't touched in 5 years. I hope to some day get down to just a dozen vehicles and one school bus full of parts.

Re: Refuse to junk stuff?

Everything i have taken off my truck is in boxes and in the garage, well except the original hubs of which one of then had a couple broken parts, wish i hadn't tossed them, the were the hard to get Blue ones.. And the wheels that were on the truck when my Step dad bought it, kinda weird steel 4 hole slots, donno maybe they were 1/2 of a dual setup? but they were dished properly for a standard wheel.
