Brake switch
Ive been having problems getting my brake lights and turn signals to work on my 62. I bought a new switch and some new wires. When I looked at the brake switch it only had one wire into and I'm not sure what color the other one is supposed to be. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: Brake switch
Should be 2 wires- an orange which will be a constant 12V+ and a white- which will go to the turn signal connector.
EDIT: sorry I am always thinking '63+ on wiring colors. Either way there should be a 12V+ and another coming out, going to the turn signal switch that will only be hot with the pedal depressed. |

Re: Brake switch
You can find the wiring diagrams and a TON more info in the 60-66 FAQ's, here's a link to the FAQ's.

Re: Brake switch
Thanks yall. Ill take a look today and try and take a few pictures. Im dealing with a rats nest of wire under my dash. Lots of wires that were cut and spliced. Plus my yellow wire that goes back to the fuse box is burned all the way back so I need to rewire that. One of these days Ill post some pictures of the truck.

Re: Brake switch
I'm dealing with the same problems on my 62, the wiring is a mess from the headlights to the tailights and under dash is.... I will see if I can post some pics and details on my temporary fix. I don't have the funds to buy a new harness at this point.
Welcome to the forum! Please post pics. |

Re: Brake switch
Pappy, Im with you on the no funds thing. It would be nice to be able to just throw a new harness under it. I trying to figure out which old wires go where and then plug in the new wires that came from the tail lights the previous owner put in.

Re: Brake switch
Ok so I more or less figured it out. I now have running lights all the way around. But only the right rear lights up while braking. Any advise? Also does anyone know how to adjust the emergency brake? It doesn't work at all.

Re: Brake switch
The e-brake probably isn't hooked up. The cables rust and seize over time, so you pretty much get one application and you're done if you pull it. If the rest of it is still there you may just be able to buy a new cable and hook everything up. I don't have any trucks with working parking brakes (see above) right now, but IIRC you adjust them under the truck somewhere along the cable; should be fairly straightforward. (Differed a little over the years AFAIK)
Check the taillights and taillight bulbs, and look for "spliced" wires twisted together and taped, or otherwise missing. Also check the turn signal wiring; that's where they split off and become their own independent circuits. If your wiring is hacked it might be hacked there, too. |
