Re: Tire and wheel question for my step side
I have a 1960 and I'm running 255-70-R15's on the rear, mounted on 15x7 American TTO's. My truck isn't lowered, but if I did these would just squeeze up inside the fenders. I believe the rear end in a 66 is at least an inch wider than mine. Unless the fender opening is above the tire, there isn't very much room in these fenders compared to a fleetside, because the 60-66 bed and fenders were designed for the 55-59 trucks which are much narrower.
I've seen guys run 10" rims and 50 series tires on these stepsides, but I'm not sure how much tire rubbing goes on either at the fender, or on the back side at the bed wall.

Re: Tire and wheel question for my step side
I am running 275-60-R15's stock height wouldn't want to run much wider, they are just off the inside edge of the box. I am running 15X8 Ansen Sprints. I also am running a 1976 bed.

Re: Tire and wheel question for my step side
I have BFG 295/50/15, they do not fit inside my 64 step. Wheels are US wheel 15/8 Stealth 4" backspace. They sit flush with outside of fender. I knew that they wouldn't ,but they were free. We run air shocks to raise it up enough temporarily as my son wants a different tire/wheel setup down the road.

265/70 15" on 15x8 rally wheels, they are close but never rub even with a load.
