60-63 Armrest Placement????
I'm looking for measurements to mount my factory armrests in the factory location in my 63. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm also looking for some input from anyone that has them in the factory location. If you had a chance to move them on the door panel for comfort, which way would you go?
See pic that I lifted from here for reference. |

PM me your address. I have a factory template I can send you a copy of. Makes it foolproof.

I like the placement on mine which are in the factory location. If you change the location, make sure to check for clearance on the inner door itself. I've seen people drill holes to encounter no room for the nut on the backside of the arm rest bolt.

Re: 60-63 Armrest Placement????
This might be a stupid question but have you checked inside the door to see if the original nuts are there? Mine had them even though the panel did not have the holes in it. What I did was insert the bolts in the holes backwards and put a dab of paint on the tip and then installed the panel. The paint marks where the panel needed to be drilled. Make sure you drill a big enough hole in the panel or the door handle bolts are vary difficult to install. As far as location goes I am 6'4" and they seem a little low to rest your arm on.

Re: 60-63 Armrest Placement????
I did what forestb did. My 1960 GMC also already had the nuts inside the door. Rather than using paint, I sharpened the bolts to a point and pressed on the panels to leave an indentation for drilling.
After initial installation, I never ran one again on the driver's side. It was too high, and hurt my elbow after just a short time behind the wheel. It's really important to have the permanent seating in place before deciding if the arm rest is too high, low, or just right.

I dont run a drivers side either for same reason as above, but I do for the passengers so they won't close the door with the latch release handle and wear out the mechanism.
