"California Rust"... My '70/C10/402/TH400 project...
Picked up a truck from my buddy.
It's a 1970 C-10/longbed/402/700R4. This is how she sat, for the last 9 years. On some 1995 Silverado wheels... Body is pretty straight.... Except the grill/missing bumper/and driver fender. I have replacements sourced, already. A very clean place to start. This is the look I'm going for in the end. I photo-chopped it. I should also mention that I just parted out my '88 K5 Blazer Crawler, In order to help fund this build. So, I'm pretty well versed in trucks/fabrication/rebuilds/etc. My family has Chevrolet running through our veins. I rebuild Transmissions for a living, and can fix ANYTHING with gears. Although... Aside from my Mom owning a '69/C10/360/TH400, this is my first experience w/ 2nd gens. Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by Patina'd_402; 04-29-2013 at 06:18 PM. |

And.....
The plans are: - Go through the 402, verify everything I've been told. * If the current setup displeases me, I'll be running a Thumper Cam, and goin' from there. - All MSD Ign. components. - Mate the 402 to my newly rebuilt TH400. (Mod'd for 1-2-D, EVERY upgrade possible.) Rebuilt by me.... - Install an ECE 4/6 drop. - All new (Poly) body/trans/motor mount bushings. - DIY4X Poly motor mounts. - Moog Balljoints. - New bumpers/lights/marker lenses/etc. The front is already disked. I'm gonna disk the rear too. My K5 was 3/4 Ton swapped, with disks all around. I like full disk. Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by Patina'd_402; 04-29-2013 at 06:20 PM. |

The Solid Plan:
ignition: All MSD. Motor: 396 BBC, .030" over, unknown internals. Gonna rebuild it. Exhaust: JBA Shorty headers, True duals, H-pipe, No Cats, Flowmaster Super 40's. Trans.: TH400 w/ all possible upgrades, and a 1-2-D shift kit. Suspension/Chassis: E.C.E. 4/6 drop kit, All Poly bushings, DIY4X motor mounts. Axle: 5-lug swapped 12b. Brakes: will be All-Disk. And, a few little touches here and there...

That photo shop looks killer. Someone needs to step up and make the 20" truck rallys.

Thanks, and yea...
The fact that I'll be saving about $3k in body/paint work (because I'm not doing it), Will make it so I can order some custom 20" Rally's.... I'll be on em, after the bags go in. Haters are gonna hate. Posted via Mobile Device

Love it. I dont know which way you should go with the clear but it sure looks good wet. Maybe a satin clear, kinda in the middle? If it were me I would have a very hard time making that decision! lol

Re: "California Rust"... My '70/C10/402/TH400 project...
If I wasn't so lazy, I'd love to have a super wet looking clear;
But, I think the old paint might argue with the new "wet" clear, and cause lifting And other unsightly blemeshes... Satin would look DOPE... I was thinking Flat clear, but satin is just, so, awesome. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: "California Rust"... My '70/C10/402/TH400 project...
So...yea....
The truck is 2/4 dropped, Jeep springs out back. Custom one piece driveshaft is in. Ran a new wiring harness. Installed a HUGE 4-core Radiator, made a custom shroud, and added a Volvo-850 elec. fan. Upgraded to a CS-144 (124a) Alternator. Fixed a bunch of little things. Waxed the whole truck w/Mcguiers Tech Wax 2.0. Still have a couple things to do, but I'll be on the road very soon.
