firming up the ride?

I finally got my 87 back together its at the dyno shop as I type this

I lowered it using 2.5" spindles and 4" shackles & hangers in the rear 4 new shocks and bushing in the front when I done it

truck kinda ride like it on a cloud very smooth ride but thats it, its to smooth to much body lean on the exspressway cruising 70mph some turns can be a handful when hitting a bump

truck does have a front sway bar but not one in the rear, I've been wanting to lower it more maybe another 2" front and back was thinking of springs in the front and maybe moving the front hangers up or installing the stock hangers and a flip kit?

Stiffer (higher rate coils) in front & a sway bar w/poly bushings usually tighten up the front of these trucks nicely...

Moog # 6082 722 lbs/in 6 cyl, and light v-8
Moog # 6542 842 lbs/in std v-8
Moog # 6102 1015 lbs/in bigblock, longbed c.s.
Moog # 6104 1016 lbs/in 3/4 ton, sits 1/2" higher than #6102
Moog # 6454 1060 lbs/in 3/4t bbc, c.s, 1ton

if i was to cut one ring from my stock coils that would firm it up as well as drop it 2"?

Yes, it will drop it & slightly firm up the ride. Amount of drop varies depending on the spring & it's service life (some are abused more than others) but 2" min drop is typical. Spring rate won't increase much so if you had the standard V8 springs, it prob would come in under the BB spring rate.

I think i'm going to try it, might be able to do just want i want drop it some and firm it up a little.....

now I just need to see if i have room for move the rear hangers up to get another 2" drop out of them

I would put a pair of 2" blocks on it. I think it would be easier.

Cant use blocks when the rear-end is not flipped on leaf trucks.

I might if I cant move the hangers up?

I dont have the fuel tanks installed any more I put a 20gal cell in the bed so if I can move the hangers up a little i'm all for it.....

I didn't even think before I typed my answer. I never use the hangers to lower the rear, I automatically flip the axle because a 6" drop in the rear is a good starting point for me. I should have read his current combo a little closer before I responded.
