Running Bare Metal
Hey guys,
I've been mulling over the idea of sandblasting my truck, she's about 4 different colors and it's getting old. Problem is I'm not at the stage where paint is on the horizon, and I'm not at all interested in primer or a cheap paint job. I live in the desert, truck is garaged 24/7, and I like the look of some bare metal cars I've seen in the past. Has anyone had any experience running bare metal with our trucks? How difficult is it to maintain? Jon

If i was going to go bare metal, i'd clear it after it was clean, but that's just me.

My brother has a bare metal 69 chevelle in his garage for the last 10 years, no surface rust located in southern california...

As long as it never goes outside it will be fine. If it ever gets wet or someone puts there hand on it it will rust quick. I did a motor cycle tank with bare metal flames in the paint and we used a clear base coat first and then painted as normal the rest.

I did here in LV if you like brownish surface rust. There are coatings now you can wipe on to help stop surface rust.

If being tired of the multi color truck is your only problem, just be patient. It probably is not worth all the effort and money to get it blasted and then have to take it apart again to paint it later. I have found that half of the money I wast on my truck is due to not being willing to wait.
