Pedal Pad Question

Does anybody know if 67-72 brake and clutch pedal pads will fit on 60-66 pedals?



Also, has anyone ever tried to install 67 Chevelle brake and clutch pedal pads on a 60-66 truck? They sure do look similar in size and shape. I always liked the way the disc brake pads looked, far more than the truck pads.

I want to write that the brake pedal is wider on the 67-72 trucks... but I'm not sure, it's just a visual in my head.

I'm sure someone in here knows.

The truck pedals from 60-72 are the same size. Im not sure if the pedal for the 67-72 with the chrome trim will work on a 60-66, but the standard pedals will.

I'm gathering up the parts to switch over to a 71-72 cable throttle. I love the Cal Custom gasser pedal I've been using for years, but I've never been able to dial in the level of smoothness I'd like. So time for another project, and I'll end up with another hot rod trinket added to the garage wall collection. This is what's going away. I'll post photos of the project once it's in and working. I'm still waiting for stuff to arrive.

If I have to lose the pedal, I'd really like to add the Chevelle pedal pads. I waited a long time before I could afford to put a 4 speed and disc brakes in my 67 Chevelle and always liked the looks of those pads. They may fit with some modification to the steel mount. I'm probably going to find out one way or the other! It does help that I have a spare set of pedal arms to play with.

If the 60-66 and 67-72 pads both fit the pedals, the trim shouldn't be any trouble at all. It just slips over the front and is retained with tabs like on the paper dolls my sister had as a kid. Here are gas pedal photos posted by another member, showing the trim front and back:





If I don't do the Chevelle pads, I'll probably add the later truck pads with the trim.

I would think that you are right in that the trim shouldn't be a problem. I know for a fact the standard covers will work though.

I would believe that chevy didn't make different pedals for cars and trucks seperate so those pads should swap right on to your pedals. I know the pads seem pretty universal from the 60s to the 80s. Maybe a quick visit to a junk yard to see if you could find some to test.

I’m thinking the same thing. I went ahead and bought a new Chevelle/Camaro disc brake pad so we’ll know soon enough. They listed the years from 67-81 so they are pretty universal. If it fits right on, I’ll pick up a matching brake pedal pad. If it doesn’t, I’m going to remove the emblem and see what is required to mount it on a spare 1960 pedal pad I have, just to see what it takes. Depending on those results I’ll either end up with Chevelle/Camaro pads or the 67-72 truck style with the disc brake emblem added.

I was amazed shopping for pedal pads what a huge variance in quality and originality are offered. Here are four different examples:

This is the one I ordered. The emblem looks authentic to me in both curvature, shine, and font. The emblem looks too high up on the pad because of the angle of the photo:



This emblem has been smashed in, and the font doesn’t match the first example:



This one looks like a freeze plug and the pad is all stretched out of shape indicating the disc is too big to fit correctly:



And this is the worst of the lot. The emblem is smashed in at various depths around the stampings, and the font is blocky, looking very little like an original. It is also cut too deep into the pad, and the stainless surface is all scratched up:



It certainly does pay to comparison shop!

Yeah, I agree. The worst thing is that you can order the best looking one online and get the worst one delivered.

So any word if the chevelle pads fit our pedals? I personally am no fan of the stock waffle pedal pads. Interesting you posted the design shown above in your first post as standard for 67-72 trucks, when I thought the waffle pads were the only ones offered on our trucks.

That is correct, only the waffle pads were offered in the 60-66 series. The 67-72(?) pads however fit perfectly on our pedals with or without the trim, with no modifications. I went ahead and added the later deluxe pads to mine. Here's a recent photo:



BTW, the Chevelle pads don't even come close. They look like 3/4 scale miniatures by comparison in real life:

Man, I wish they made something that would fit that is similar to the deluxe pads, but without the stainless trim. I'm afraid that if I got the deluxe pads that you have (without the trim), it just wouldn't look right because you'd be able to see the cutouts where the trim is supposed to go.

Very cool. Thanks for sharing, I didn't know they made a generic pedal pad like that. I might grab one of my extra pedals and see if it can be modified to fit the Chevelle pad.
